announcements

12/28/2025: System maintenance is complete, but I'm not sure that it went so smoothly. Please report any issues to <mobrule@gmail.com>

2/1/2023: This site now reflects the recent reorganization of Connecticut from 8 counties to 9 regional planning districts. You should resubmit your visits to Connecticut.

8/30/2022: Major rewrite of the slippy maps. URLs have changed and existing bookmarks to this site may no longer work
  • slippy maps now have a data entry mode, providing another way to enter the counties you have visited
  • better support for mobile devices and tables, with a simplified control panel and a marker for your current location (this last feature requires your permission to share your location, and your real-time location will not be tracked by this site. See the updated privacy policy.)
  • some features from OSM driving directions have been ported to Google driving directions, like highlighting new counties on the route, and annotating the turn-by-turn directions with county line crossing information
  • text/printer-friendly annotated turn-by-turn directions

welcome

Always ones to let our competitive nature get the better of us, we (that's Bert, Mark, Chris, Marty, and all our like-minded friends) are keeping track of all the U.S. and Canadian counties we've been to.

The rules are simple: you visit a county, then you count it. To visit a county, just cross the plane of the county line. Usually, you visit a county in a car, but it is possible to visit counties by biking, hiking, or even skiing. Generally, we don't count flying over a county, especially flying in a commercial jet airplane (it's just too hard to see the signs that say "Entering Beaufort County").
